Discovery of the neutron star nature of SLX 1737 − 282

چکیده
SLX 1737−282 is a persistent moderately bright X-ray source 1. 2 from the Galactic center. X-ray observations with the Wide Field Cameras on BeppoSAX have for the first time revealed the true nature of SLX 1737−282: a 15-min long thermonuclear flash was detected exposing the source as a neutron star in a binary system. The flash was Eddington-limited constraining the distance to between 5 and 8 kpc. We analyze BeppoSAX, ROSAT, and RXTE data on SLX 1737−282. The persistent 0.5–200 keV luminosity is close to or less than 1% of the Eddington limit which implies a rarely-seen circumstance for thermonuclear flash activity.

The X - ray timing behavior of the X - ray burst source SLX 1735 – 269
We report for the first time on the rapid X-ray variability of the galactic bulge source and X-ray burster SLX 1735–269. The power spectrum as observed with the Rossi Xray Timing Explorer is characterized by a strong band-limited noise component which is approximately flat below a 0.1–2.3 Hz break frequency; above this frequency the power spectrum declines as a power law of index 0.9. At the hi...

Coordinated observations X-ray+optical observations of two southern X-ray binaries, the black hole candidate SLX 1746-331 and the neutron star accreter Cir X-1 (a 'microquasar') are reported. With a photon counting optical pho-tometer on the 1.9m telescope at Sutherland, South Africa and the PCA detector on RXTE, 4h each of simultaneous data were obtained on SLX 1746 and Cir X-1. Cir X-1 showed...
متن کاملForty Years of X-Ray Binaries
In 2012 it was forty years ago that the discovery of the first X-ray binary Centaurus X-3 became known. That same year it was discovered that apart from the High-Mass X-ray Binaries (HMXBs) there are also Low-Mass X-ray Binaries (LMXBs), and that Cygnus X-1 is most probably a black hole. By 1975 also the new class of Be/X-ray binaries was discovered. After this it took 28 years before ESAs INTE...
متن کاملA Lack of Radio Emission from Neutron Star Low Mass X-ray Binaries
We report strict upper limits to the radio luminosities of three neutron star low-mass X-ray binaries obtained with the Very Large Array while they were in hard X-ray states as observed with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer: 1E 1724–307, 4U 1812–12, and SLX 1735–269. We compare these upper limits to the radio luminosities of several black hole binaries in very similar hard states, and find that ...
